SWIFT Just Proved Tokenized Deposits Can Move. That Proves Almost Nothing.
The first real-time interbank transfer over the SWIFT Ledger has already happened. HSBC, Standard Chartered, and fifteen other banks completed a tokenized-deposit transaction. The announcement is being read as proof that the future of global finance is quietly arriving through bank corridors. The code-level read is less flattering. What SWIFT has demonstrated is that a permitted ledger can coordinate net settlement while the actual money still moves through the old rails.
